Saturday marked a major milestone in the career of promising young referee Tyler Armstrong, as he stepped onto the field for his A Grade debut at Greenway Park, officiating the clash between the Pennant Hills Stags and Harbord Devils.
Since first picking up the whistle in 2021, Tyler has quickly risen through the ranks of community rugby league refereeing. His calm presence, deep knowledge of the game, and commitment to continual improvement have earned him growing recognition within the officiating community.
This year has already proven to be a breakout season for Tyler. In 2024, he was selected for the prestigious NSWRL Junior Representative Referee Squad – a significant accomplishment and a testament to his talent and potential. As part of the squad, he made his representative touch judge debut in three of the state’s key junior rep competitions: the Lisa Fiaola Cup (girls U17), the Tarsha Gale Cup (girls U19), and the Harold Matthews Cup (boys U17).

Saturday’s A Grade debut was another leap forward, as Tyler took charge of a high-intensity match between two physical and fast-paced teams. Held under the lights at Greenway Park, the Pennant Hills Stags and the Harbord Devils delivered a fiercely contested encounter, and Tyler rose to the occasion with confidence, control, and clear communication throughout the 60 minutes.
Fellow officials and coaches praised his performance, noting his strong positioning, consistent rulings, and professional game management. The debut reflects the hard work Tyler has put in over the past four seasons and signals a bright future ahead in the officiating pathway.
With junior rep experience now under his belt and an A Grade debut successfully completed, Tyler Armstrong is a name to watch as he continues to progress in rugby league refereeing. Whether on the touchline or in the middle, Tyler’s passion for the game and dedication to the craft are clear for all to see.
